Rest in Peace Ted Kennedy

Hockey Hall of Famer Ted ‘Teeder’ Kennedy passed away on August 14, 2009 at a nursing home in Port Colborne, Ontario.  He was 83 years of age.

Kennedy played 14 seasons in the NHL (1942 - 1956) all of which were with the Toronto Maple Leafs.  He played a total of 696 games, scored 231 goals, had 329 assists and amassed 560 points.  He won the Stanley Cup 5 times, 3 of those were as the team’s Captain.  In 1955 he won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player.

Among the all time Maple Leafs records, he is eighth in assists, ninth in points, tenth in goals and 15th in games played.  He is fourth in Maple Leafs all time playoff goals and sixth in all time playoff points and was selected three times for the NHL’s Second All-Star Team.  In his time, he was considered by many to be one of, if not the best player on the ice.  Kennedy was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1966.

“The entire Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club sends our deepest sympathies to the Kennedy family,” said Brian Burke, president and general manager of the team. “He truly was a man of great class and he was one of the most accomplished leaders in our team’s long history.”
